Agusta 109 E

AirMed Helicopter Pilots are employed by AirMed Inc. AirMed is the only locally owned and operated FAR part 135 within the South Eastern United States. The pilots hold FAA Air Line Transport or Commercial with Instrument pilot certificates. All are highly experienced commercial helicopter pilots and many have military flying backgrounds also. In addition to intensive initial training for commercial flight operations and specialized EMS Flight Training conducted by AirMed’s check airman Todd Hatfield, the pilots must re-qualify annually for Visual Flight operations (VFR). This is done to ensure a high level of proficiency and safety. All AirMed pilots and crew are trained and certified in NVG (Night Vision Goggles) operations.

A highly specialized pre-flight and post-flight preparation process which includes frequent monitoring and evaluation of changing weather conditions is performed by each pilot throughout each shift of every day. The pilots are highly knowledgeable of their aircraft systems and performance, air medical transport procedures, communications, and the geography of the service area. A blend of experience and talent are employed by each pilot to effectively, safely and rapidly respond to the challenges and demands of air medical transport operations conducted by AirMed. Our maintenance department is a key component to our program, AirMed’s mechanics are the guys behind the scenes that allow us to complete mission after mission, with the confidence of safely and speed in mind.

AirMed currently operates an Agusta 109 E “Power” as the primary helicopter and a Eurocopter Twinstar as the backup helicopter.

Airmed Fixed Wing operations extend our reach for crtitically injured or ill patients into a nationwide range.  As the primary aircraft, Airmed operates a Super King Air 200 twin turbo-prop aircraft capable of transporting two patients, three attendants and two pilots.  Airmed also operates a King Air 90 as a backup aircraft capable of transporting a single patient, three attendants and two pilots.  If you need patients transported a distance over 160 nautical miles, we will be more than happy to send out our fixed wing crew.
